La Semaine de la Bande Dessinée
A Week Celebrating the French Graphic Novel

NEW • Please visit our PRESS ROOM PAGE for anything you need to publicize about all our events. We have downloadable hi-res art, press contacts, exact listings and times in PDF and Word.doc form, plus many useful links, downloadable images, etc: HERE

This is your chance to learn why the French and francophone Europe have always revered the bande dessinée ("designed strip" or graphic novel) and meet one of the art's French stars: Pierre-François Beauchard, who publishes under the name David B. A co-founder of the artist-run L'Association, which revolutionized European comics with their new style and approach, Beauchard has received countless awards - including European Cartoonist of the Year and the prestigious French Alph' Award. Read more here in the Artist Trust newsletter 'Art Source' (English) or read an interview here in French.
Best-known for his masterpiece "Epileptic" ("L'Ascension du Haut Mal"), David B. inspired Marjane Satrapi to create "Persepolis", a work he nurtured to publication by L'Association. We are delighted and honored to have him here for the week of events below. Questions? Visit the PRESS ROOM or email us.

The originator and curator of "La Semaine de la Bande Dessinée" is Alliance Française Board member Cynthia Rose and the project's associate curator is Kim Thompson, co-owner of Fantagraphics Books.

"Romans Graphiques Meet the Graphic Novel" panel discussion with David B., Jim Woodring, Pete Bagge; moderated by Kim Thompson
The Henry welcomes a powerhouse international panel to celebrate the visit of Parisian graphic novelist David B.. When still a student, David B.. co-founded the artist-run publishing group L’Association, a group that revolutionized European comics. For this discussion, he is joined by two of Seattle’s own superstar bédéistes: Peter Bagge and Jim Woodring.
They will talk about the subtleties of the BD/graphic novel as a medium - explaining how they employ its tools of image, space, and (sometimes) text. They will take questions from the audience and, after wards, works by each artist will be available for purchase and signing.
